Cubefield

No. 01 — Solo field live seed

Six faces, one block decides.

A minesweeper you can turn in your hands. Numbers count mines across the cube's edges, and every board is dealt from a live Solana blockhash, so the layout was fixed before you touched it.

Reading the cube

Classic minesweeper logic, folded over a solid. The new skill is seeing around corners.

  1. Dig

    Click a tile. If it is safe it sinks and shows how many mines touch it. A zero opens its whole neighbourhood for you.

  2. Numbers wrap the edges

    A tile on an edge also touches the three tiles across the fold. Corner tiles touch seven, everyone else eight.

  3. Flag and chord

    Right-click or long-press to flag. Click a number whose flags are all placed and its other neighbours open at once.

  4. Geodes

    A few safe tiles hold a geode, always beside at least one mine. Each is worth ten points: bravery, priced.

  5. A fair opening

    The board names its own opening tile, so nobody starts blind and nobody gets a hand-picked start.

North face East face 3 across the fold
The highlighted tile reads 3: one mine on its own face, two across the edge.

Interlude — the net

Open the cube flat.

  1. i.

    Six faces, one surface. Every tile has neighbours on all sides, so there is no wall to lean on.

  2. ii.

    Cut seven edges. Four faces swing open on hinges they share with the front face; the back rides out on the east.

  3. iii.

    One flat net. The verifier below draws exactly this layout, mine for mine, from the same blockhash.

Waiting for the first deal…

03

Dealt by the chain, not by us

When you deal, the page asks Solana for its latest finalised blockhash. That 32-byte value is unpredictable before the block exists and public forever after. Everything else is arithmetic you can repeat.

The recipe, exactly

seed  = SHA-256("cubefield/v1|" + slot + "|" + blockhash
                 + "|" + n + "|" + mines)
words = SHA-256(seed ‖ u32be(0)), SHA-256(seed ‖ u32be(1)), …
        read as big-endian uint32, rejection-sampled
order = Fisher–Yates over tile indices 0 … 6n²−1
mines = order[0 … mines−1]
geodes= next tiles in order that touch ≥ 1 mine
start = next tile in order with zero mine-neighbours
tile  = face·n² + row·n + col   faces: E W T B N S

The blockhash for any slot can be read on any Solana explorer or with getBlock. The verifier below does exactly that.

Re-derive any board

Enter a slot. The verifier fetches that block's hash from the chain, runs the recipe in your browser with WebCrypto, and draws every mine.

If digs cost something: a model

Cubefield is free. Shared-cube games elsewhere charge per dig, raise the price as a round goes on, and split the take between a reward pool and a burn. This model shows how those levers interact so you can judge any such design before you pay into one.

Model only. No token, no deposits, no payouts exist here.

Geode hit rate per safe dig

Break-even payout per geode

Hit rate uses the Standard cube's real geode-to-safe-tile ratio. Break-even is the average cost of a dig divided by that rate: the payout a geode must carry for an average dig to return its cost, before mines end your round.

Why a cube plays differently

0

No borders

A flat board has safe-ish walls and corners. A cube has none: every edge tile is fully surrounded, which removes the cheap edge guesses players lean on.

7 / 8

Two neighbourhoods

Only the 24 corner tiles have seven neighbours. Everything else has eight. Learn to spot the corners and you read faster.

6n²

Scale on demand

Small, Standard and Deep run 150, 294 and 486 tiles. Density stays near one in seven so skill transfers between sizes.

Questions

Is this connected to a wallet or a token?

No. Cubefield is a free single-player game. It never asks for a wallet, never signs anything and never moves funds. The only network calls are read-only requests for public Solana data.

What does “provably fair” mean here?

The mine layout is a pure function of a public blockhash and the board size. We cannot choose the blockhash, and once it exists anyone can recompute the layout. The verifier does this independently of the game code's state.

Could someone pick a block that gives an easy board?

The deal button always takes the newest finalised block at that moment. You can choose an older slot in the entropy feed, which is fine for practice, but leaderboard runs record their slot so anyone can see which block was played.

Why is there an opening tile?

Classic minesweeper protects your first click by moving a mine, which would make the layout depend on your click. Here the board itself names a zero tile to open, so the layout stays fixed and checkable.

Is the leaderboard global?

No. It is stored in your browser's local storage and never leaves your device. Clearing site data removes it.

What are the economy numbers?

A labelled model of how pay-per-dig designs work. Nothing in it is live, and no tokens or rewards exist on this site.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Drag to turn the cube, tap to dig, long-press or switch on Flag mode to flag. If WebGL is unavailable, the verifier still draws any board as a flat net.
